Resistance Chair Shows Benefits For The Active Aging Community

Here at Simple Comforts, we believe that getting active is extremely important to helping you lead a long and healthy life.  Today we are going to go over a few of the endless benefits of physical activity as well as some different ways to become more active.

The benefits of being active can be dramatic to improving your health.  Just by becoming more active and engaging in more physical activity you can control your blood pressure, blood sugar, and your weight.  You can also prevent heart disease and type 2 diabetes.  On top of that you can also decrease depression, look and feel better, stronger and more energetic.

As you probably already know, there are different types of physical activity.  The two broad categories of physical activity are aerobic and muscle-strengthening.  Aerobic exercises consist of running, biking, jogging, walking, dancing, playing sports, or anything that makes you breathe harder and accelerates your heart rate.  Muscle-strengthening activities are exercises that make your muscles stronger such as weight and resistance training.  One issue with weight training that becomes more common as you age is it can put stress on your joints and bones.  However, resistance training can be just as effective and minus the stress.  There are even great products on the market such as the Resistance Chair that can help you maximize your resistance training.  To get the most out of being active you should be doing both aerobic and muscle-strengthening exercises.

The Resistance Chair Exercise and Rehabilitation System is perfect for part of a senior fitness exercise program that is perfect for seniors. The Resistance Chair is the the world’s most convenient home gym. This rehabilitation system allows you to do a full body workout from a safe, comfortable seated position. Because you remain seated, you maintain balance and stability as you exercise your arms, chest, shoulders, abdomen, back, and legs. The patented Resistance Anchor Cable™ system offers a wide range of upper body and lower body exercises and provides smooth, low-impact resistance without use of heavy weights. The Resistance Chair system is made of very strong, commercial-grade construction with thick-wall steel tubing. It’s built to withstand frequent use in gyms and rehab centers and has been tested to easily hold over 400 pounds.

There are no excuses not to get active and engage in physical activity a few times a week.  We hope that this post encourages and motivates you to do so.

Medicine Safety Tips for Seniors

Today Simple Comforts is going to give some tips on how to use medicines safely.  Medicines are necessary for easing pain and curing illness.  However they can also be very dangerous and harmful if they are misused.  This is why it is important to understand how to use your medicines safely.

The first step to using your medicine as safely as possible is to always read and understand the directions on the bottle before beginning use of the medicine.  If you are already on a medication and are being prescribed on something new, you always want to ask your doctor if these prescriptions are safe to take together.  You also want to inform your doctor if there are any over-the-counter medicines that you use on a regular basis, if you have any side effects after use of a medication, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

It is also very important to keep good track of all the medications you use and when you use them.  If you are on multiple medications you should keep a log of how much of each you are taking and when you are taking them. There are many different products such as pill dispensers, pill cutters and pill boxes on the market that can help you organize all of your medications.  However if you are using one of these helpful products you still want to keep the bottle that the medicine came in so that you have all of the label information.

Storing your medication properly is one of the most vital parts to using it safely.  Not only can misuse of a medication be harmful to you but it can be even more harmful if it is taken by a child or a pet.  If by chance a child does take one of your prescriptions or over-the-counter medicines you should always call the Poison Control Center (1-800-222-1222) immediately.  Medicines should be stored in a cool and dry place and should be disposed of if expired.
